After the joy of Easter comes this reminder that the Christendom world is dead and welcome back to the 1st Century. Looking at this new story, it seems even the White House going a step beyond portraying Christians as freaks or fundamentalist crazies. When the White House asks a Catholic university to cover the name icon of Jesus “IHS” and they willingly comply, you wonder what Jesuit education has come to and why the President would even request it. When when have the president reinterpret the parable of the house built on the rock as a lesson on economics but neither reference Jesus or the religious nature of the school who had invited him, that says something to.

Welcome to post-Christendom where we are no longer mocked, we are unwelcome and the cross must be hidden by the flag. Makes discipleship look far more serious than a church membership.

I have been watching this blooming of hatred for awhile. After the 2004 election, you got all those derisive stories about “Jesusland” and the fear mongering that Christians were “taking over”. We are a minority group. It reminds me of how anti-semitism was whipped up with all kinds of Jewish conspiracy theories. They went from “taking over” to Auschwitz. And now, we are the new Jews. It is OK to hate us and offend us and tell us that our worldview has no place in public discourse. We helped this happen by being so passive.

For 8 years the Christian Right, which is neither, has painted a pretty bad picture. Maybe this is the result?
