On this podcast I review my first Hit Test and talk a bit about the power of music in the postmodern spiritual journey. Like I say in the podcast, much of what is peddled as Christian pop/rock is targeted at a fearful subculture that is afraid to engage the larger world with its penetrating questions of faith and life. I have used songs and videos in worship and classes to make the point that there are people “out there” who are asking questions that we as Christians say we have answers to but ignore because those questions aren’t phrased in “proper English” or are considered disrespectful to the true faith. Frankly, the Christians that aren’t ready to meet Green Day on their portraral of Jesus of Suburbia on American Idiot aren’t going to connect with the coveted “young people” they long to see fill their churches again. Postmoderns don’t care about modern questions or issues – they have their own and they are going to sing about it and act it out in videos rather than in modern churches only interested in making more modern clones of themselves. Some churches get this, but its a risk for many Christians to go back out into the world to make disciples. I’ll say more about this in a future podcast.
